Jeffery the Jeep

Written by Bill N. Dingus

Enhanced with charming full-color illustrations on every page, this is a delightful story about a little Jeep that dreams of being a fire truck. Every time he expresses his ambition he is told, “You are too small and made the wrong way.” His mother first suggests Jeffery might be a Post Office Jeep like his father. Then his parents send him to talk with his grandfather, who loves to reminisce about his service in World War II. Finally Jeffery goes to talk with his brother, who is totally happy just being a dune buggy. Discouraged by all the negative reaction, Jeffery sadly returns to his favorite spot overlooking the fire station. Suddenly the alarm sounds and he watches the fire trucks go only a short distance down the road and stop. Curious, he goes to see why. There he sees a forest fire, and the big trucks are having trouble trying to get up the mountainside. As Jeffery sits watching, a forest ranger asks if he will take them to the fire. After the fire is out, Jeffery is declared a hero; and when the ranger asks if he would like to be a Forest Service Jeep, he responds, “YES SIR, WOULD I EVER!”
